Things to do in Virpazar

A village of a few hundred people on the northern shore of Lake Skadar, reached over small stone bridges, and the usual place to take a boat onto the lake. Trips run to the bird colonies, the island monasteries and the flooded meadows of water lilies that cover the shallows in early summer. The Crmnica hills behind produce most of Montenegro's wine. Virpazar is about 30 minutes from Podgorica and 45 from the coast, and works as a single night rather than a week.

Boats leave from the Virpazar quay all morning; a two-hour trip is the shortest that gets past the reeds, so decide early or skip it.

Twenty minutes on foot up from the village, and the best possible first look at the lake before setting off.
Virpazar Waterfront Promenade

A restored lakeside walkway in Virpazar village running along Lake Skadar, lined with local restaurants and fishermen's docks. The promenade is the heart of the town and offers morning and sunset views across the water.
