Ninety seconds on Prčanj
A ribbon of captains' houses and gardens along the western shore of the bay, strung for nearly two kilometres with no real centre. Above the road stands the church of the Birth of Our Lady, a monumental piece of stonework begun in the eighteenth century and far larger than the village that raised it. The water here is calm and the outlook is straight across to Dobrota and the mountains behind it. There is little to do beyond swimming, eating and walking the shore road, which is the point: Kotor is ten minutes away by car when you want it.
The largest church in the Bay of Kotor, a Roman Catholic basilica begun in 1789 to a Venetian design and finished only in 1909, standing over the shoreline village of Prcanj on the western arm of the bay. The terrace in front gives one of the wide views back across the water, and the church holds a notable collection of paintings.
