Things to do
5-

Stegastein
The platform stands at the fjord end of the Aurlandsfjellet snow road over to Lærdal; when the crossing is open, carry on over the top and the viewpoint becomes the first stop on one of Norway's highest drives.
-
Aurlandsdalen
Walk it downhill from Østerbø rather than up, and leave time at Sinjarheim, the restored cliff-ledge farm partway down; the path is marked with red Ts and the exposed stretches carry a fixed wire.
-
Otternes Bygdetun
Come on foot or by bike from Flåm along the fjord path; the approach under the hayfields is the best part of the visit, and the summer guiding is what takes you inside the houses.
-
Undredal Stave Church
Undredal had no road at all until 1988 and is still best treated as a boat stop: come up the fjord, take the guided church visit, and try the brown goat cheese the village is known for before the boat back.
-
Vangen Church
The church stands a couple of minutes from the Aurland quay, and the factory of the Aurland shoe, the original penny loafer, still operates a short walk away; together they fill the gap between buses better than the cafe.
