    The sister city to Machu Picchu across the Apurímac canyon, twice its size and reached only on foot: two days in, 1,500 metres down and 1,800 up, and two days out. A few dozen visitors a day against the citadel's thousands.

    Viewpoint · 1 hr

    The pass above Cachora where the Choquequirao trail leaves the road and the whole Apurímac canyon opens out 1,500 metres below, with the ruins a speck on the far side. Condors work the thermals here.
