Ninety seconds on Becici Beach
Loungers take the front rows in season and the good ones are gone by half past nine, which is the practical difference between this beach and a quieter one. The path behind it runs the whole bay and does not stop at Becici.
A near two-kilometre crescent of sand and fine gravel east of Budva, backed by resort hotels, with calm shallow water and a promenade running its full length. It won a Paris Grand Prix as a great European beach in 1935, and it remains one of the longest and best-serviced beaches on this coast.
The path behind it does not stop where the beach does. It wraps the whole bay and carries on south into Rafailovici, a fishing village at the far end that is now a run of seafood restaurants along its own front, so a swim turns into a walk with lunch in it and no need for a car. The surface changes as it goes: soft multi coloured pebble along most of the two kilometres, softening into sand at the Rafailovici end. What it is not is quiet or characterful, and the coves west of Budva are where to go if that is the requirement.
