Park
Central Kalahari Game Reserve
Sand ridges, fossil river valleys and open pans cover a reserve the size of a small country, set aside in 1961 for the San who had hunted here for millennia. Black maned lion, oryx and brown hyena live on ground with no permanent water. Camping is unfenced and self sufficient, with fuel, water and recovery gear carried in.

Deception Valley
Grass fills an ancient riverbed in the northern reserve, pale and open, where Mark and Delia Owens camped through the 1970s and wrote about the lions and brown hyena there. Springbok and oryx graze the valley floor in numbers after rain, with predators working the edges. It lies several hours of sand track from the northern gate, which makes it a camping destination.

Kuru Art Project
At D'Kar, a farming settlement outside Ghanzi, Naro artists work in a studio founded in the 1990s, printing and painting the animals, plants and stories of the sandveld. Work hangs in the gallery and sells to collectors abroad. Visits are welcome during working hours, and the drive out takes under half an hour from town.
