Ninety seconds on Kjerringøy
Fifteen listed buildings make up the post, among them the merchants' main house with its French wallpaper and a shop where part of the stock from the 1800s is still on the shelves.
Inside the buildings, the interiors stand as they always have. The main house was the home of Anna Elisabeth Ellingsen Zahl, one of the merchants who ran the post, and she spent her life in it. Look for its historic bedrooms on the guided tour, which takes place inside this house.
Heimbrygga, the home wharf, and Stornaustet, the big boathouse, are the two buildings by the water. Between them they hold the post's maritime collection, made up of objects from boats and ships.
The church opposite the trading post went up in 1883, with the merchant Zahl leading the work and giving gifts and loans towards it. It still holds services about every third Sunday, as a working parish church served by priests from Rønvik.
Leave the car at the church opposite the trading post and walk over to the reception and café building, where the visit starts. The main house is seen with a guided tour, so find out its start time first and plan the rest of the site around it.
Before or after the tour, go through the shop, Kramboden, then on to Heimbrygga and Stornaustet for the maritime collection.
Finish in the café, back in the reception building, before you walk across the road to the car.
Choose between three guided tours, among them a tour of the main house and an outdoor tour about the fishermen. Ask at reception when the next one starts and in which language, or check the museum's website, nordlandsmuseet.no, before you set off.
On a fine day, carry your coffee out of the café and drink it outside.
Before you drive back to Misten, check the return crossing times on reisnordland.no, because the crossings are timetabled. If you came on bus line 400, check its return times on the same site, since the trip back to Bodø includes the ferry.
