Ninety seconds on Hotel Gdańsk Boutique
Stay here to sleep in a 17th-century granary on the Motława, then step out of the door and into Gdańsk's Old Town within minutes.
The hotel is two buildings joined into one. The historic half is the restored granary, its old walls and wooden beams left on show. The other half is a modern wing with a yachting theme, taken from the marina it faces.
Which half you sleep in shapes the stay. A room in the granary has thick beams overhead, while the modern wing is plainly contemporary. Across the rooms and apartments, the windows look over either the Old Town or the boats on the Motława.
Step outside and the Żuraw, Gdańsk's landmark crane, stands just across the water. Downstairs, Brovarnia brews its own beer, in a city whose brewing tradition goes back to the 17th century.
Breakfast is on the first floor, from 7:00 on weekdays and an hour later at weekends. Later in the day, the restaurant cooks modern, light Polish dishes from fresh regional produce and serves the house beer with them, so you can eat without going out again.
Check-in opens at 15:00 and check-out is by noon, with reception staffed around the clock and luggage storage for an early arrival or a late train. The spa offers Balinese rituals and massages for the end of a long day of sightseeing.
Pick a room away from the breakfast area if you like to sleep in: the rooms directly above it can be noisy in the morning.
A marina-facing or Old Town view is worth requesting by name when you book, since the rooms face one or the other. On your last day, leave your bags at reception after check-out rather than carrying them round the Old Town.
