Ninety seconds on Lipica Stud Farm
As of October 2026, Lipica Stud Farm opens at 9.00 and closes at 17.00. Guided tours start at 10.00, 12.00, 14.00 and 16.00; from November to March they run on Saturdays and Sundays only, at 10.00, 12.00 and 14.00. Hours can change on holidays and during special events.
The Lipica Riding School performs at 15.00 on the stud farm's daily schedule. Each show lasts up to 50 minutes and is suitable for visitors of all ages.
Official training sessions start at 11.00. In May and October they run on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays, and in July and August on Wednesdays and Thursdays only.
Yes. A visit to the Lipikum is included in the stud farm tour, so the museum needs no separate entry and can be seen on the same day as the stables and the rest of the estate.
Lipica is where the Lipizzaner horse comes from, and the breed is still raised on this estate. Pair the guided stable tour with the riding school show in the afternoon.
On the drive in to the car park, mares are sometimes out grazing in a field on the estate. The estate covers 311 hectares of Karst countryside.
The Lipikum, the largest museum in Lipica, tells the history of the estate in an interactive way. The estate's own church, dedicated to St Anthony of Padua, is one of the stops on the guided tour.
The riding school performs indoors, in an event arena that is heated and air-conditioned. Official training is held there too, and at the end visitors may put questions to the head trainer.
Between the buildings run historic tree-lined avenues, and the grounds hold a pond and an icehole. The day ticket covers the grounds for the farm's opening hours; the riding school show needs its own ticket.
Buy a day ticket at the entrance reception, or in the online shop beforehand, and join the next guided tour. It lasts about 60 minutes, in Slovenian or English, and takes in the stables, the Carriage Exhibition, the museum and the church.
If no tour time suits, follow the self-guided route with its digital guide instead. Either way, the grounds are yours to walk afterwards, at your own pace.
End the day at the riding school show, before the farm closes. Pair it with Škocjan Caves.
