A planning chat or a plan in your app
Mindtrip is a dedicated planning chat. You describe the kind of experience you want, and its assistant suggests sights, food and places to stay, builds an itinerary and puts the stops on a map. A trip tab keeps the plan, ideas and bookings in one place, and when you are ready you can book through Mindtrip itself.
Meridian Dispatch does not ask you to learn a new assistant. Add its connector to Claude, ChatGPT or Grok and sign in once: your assistant creates the plan in the app, edits it as you talk, reads the travel preferences you set there and answers from Meridian Dispatch guides. If you planned somewhere else, paste the prompt from the import guide into any AI and tap the link it sends back.
The bigger difference comes once you leave. Mindtrip is built for the planning and the booking. Meridian Dispatch turns the plan into a journal: each time you open it on the road, the newest photos land on the right days and each day is written up, every place named.
Your assistant or theirs
If you already talk trips through with Claude or ChatGPT, that conversation holds a lot: the pace you like, who you travel with, what you skipped last time. With the connector, that assistant does the planning in Meridian Dispatch directly, so nothing is retyped into a second chat.
Mindtrip's case is focus. Its assistant was built only for travel, it draws on its own knowledge base, and it sits next to the map and the booking flow. If you want one place to ask, see the route and pay for the flight, that is a real advantage, and Meridian Dispatch does not book anything.
Sharing and location
Mindtrip is made for planning together: friends join a group chat and edit shared itineraries with you. Its App Store privacy label lists Precise Location, linked to you, and its privacy policy says some information goes to the AI providers that power the service.
Meridian Dispatch has no sharing layer and never asks for location access. Trip detection and photo ranking happen on your iPhone and your photos are never uploaded. To name places and write each day, the app sends our server, and through it our AI provider, the location of each group of photos, never the photos themselves.
Price
Mindtrip is listed as free on the US App Store.
Meridian Dispatch is free for the last five years of your trips and one trip in planning. Membership, $19.99 a year, opens every trip you have ever taken and as many plans as you like, and the connector works on either. You can cancel anytime from your App Store settings.
