Put it at either end of your trip: the lagoon sits on the road between Keflavík airport and Reykjavík, so a soak fits the hours before a late flight or after an early landing.

Visiting

Every ticket is a timed slot, so book yours before you fly. Once in, you can stay until closing. Children must be at least two, and under eights wear the armbands handed out on site.

The water is rich in silica, which leaves skin soft and long hair stiff and dry. Put conditioner from the showers through your hair before you get in, tie it up and keep your head above the water, then condition it again afterwards. Colour-treated and curly hair takes it worst.

A silica mud mask is included, and you wash without your swimsuit before entering, as at every pool in Iceland.

Know before you goThe lagoon sits beside the Sundhnúkur crater row, which erupted nine times between December 2023 and August 2025. Eruptions have closed it as a precaution. In November 2024 lava buried the old car park while the barriers held the lagoon itself, and it reopened within three weeks. On the morning you go, check the lagoon's own status page and road.is, because lava has crossed Route 43 before. A closure means your slot is refunded or moved. There is no eruption now, but more magma is stored under Svartsengi than at any point in this series, and another is likely.
