Ninety seconds on Velika Plaža
Come in the morning to swim and leave the afternoon to the wind. Once the breeze builds, the kite lines take over the river end and swimming there stops being practical.
Heading south, the beach changes sector by sector. Each stretch has its own name, bar and rows of loungers, with free sand between them for a towel. The end nearest town is the most developed, with water shallow enough for toddlers. The middle, clear of the kite lines, is where the swimming is best. Towards the river the kites take over. The sand is dark and fine, hot underfoot by midday, and the wind lifts it, so keep a grip on sunglasses and anything light.
