Ninety seconds on Muelle de Frutillar
Point a camera down the boards and Osorno sits at the far end, because the pier was built aimed at the volcano. The catamaran that leaves from it is pleasant, though it shows little the shore does not.
Walking out to the end, the view opens across Lago Llanquihue to Osorno, Puntiagudo and Tronador, with the timber facades of the promenade behind. The pier opened in 2008 and has since become the town's standard photograph. The catamaran carries seats outside and in, a toilet and a small cafe; the inside seats are the better choice when the wind is up. From the pier the rest of the waterfront is a short walk either way, the Teatro del Lago in one direction and the beach in the other.
