Ninety seconds on Heritage Grand Perast Hotel
One of only a handful of places to stay overnight in Perast, this restored waterfront palace has two pools, one indoor and one beside the water, and suites that face the bay.
The restoration of the old palace left its rooms spacious, modern, light and airy, and on the water side they look out across the Bay of Kotor.
Some suites run over two floors. In the Royal Duplex Suite the bedroom with the sea view is upstairs, and the living room below opens onto a balcony.
The Smecchia Premium Suite has its own balcony over the Bay of Kotor.
Outside, the outdoor pool sits right by the water with a long view down the bay. The hotel also has its own Beach Club, overlooking the water.
The spa adds a steam room and a gym to its indoor pool and sauna. It is open to non-guests, and so are the Riva and Piazza Terrace restaurants.
The hotel's car park is at the east entrance of town, marked as parking number 1. Spaces are limited and go first come, first served. From there the hotel's electric vehicle takes you into town.
Book a room with a direct sea view. Only two categories have one, the Heritage Premium Sea View Suite and the Smecchia Premium Suite. If you travel with children, book the Two Bedroom Family Duplex Suite, because the hotel has no interconnecting rooms.
Breakfast is served à la carte on the terrace. Spend the day between the pools and the spa, which is open from 9am to 8pm.
The Piazza Terrace serves lunch and dinner. Riva, the hotel's restaurant on the water, is the alternative.
Perast has almost no beach, so do your swimming at the hotel instead of looking for sand along the town's shore.
Reserve a pool lounger in the morning if you want one in the afternoon. Ask the pool staff on arrival how it works.
Ask for a baby cot when you book. It comes free with every room type.
Book for 22 July to be in town for the Fašinada, when local boats set off at sunset, sail to an island in the bay and throw stones around it.
