Ninety seconds on the Bay of Kotor
Driving is how this one is seen. About an hour to the mouth without stopping, half a day if the towns on it are the point rather than the driving, and two days if they properly are.
Nothing about this drive is quick. The road never leaves the water, rarely straightens, and goes through the villages rather than past them. Perast is the stop everyone makes, thirteen kilometres from Kotor, and the two islets sit offshore from it. Beyond Morinj the bay opens and the walls step back, and the last stretch to Herceg Novi is the least interesting of it. Coming back down the far shore in the afternoon puts the light behind the mountains and the whole inner basin in front of you, which is the version of the bay most photographs are of.
