Ninety seconds on King's Square
The square has public restrooms, taxis, the minibus to the beaches and the Hamilton buses, all on it or a short walk off, so start your day in St George's here. Give the stocks five minutes, then move on.
Three punishments stand in the open: stocks, a pillory and a whipping post. The stocks make the photograph, with your head and two hands through the holes. They were used for drunkenness and petty crime, and passers-by pelted whoever was locked in.
On the east side is the Town Hall, with cedar floors and ceilings and portraits of past mayors; the Corporation still meets there. The Bermuda National Trust Museum fills the north-west corner, and a short bridge crosses to Ordnance Island.
