Ninety seconds on Dominica Museum
Phone before you walk over, because the museum may be closed until further notice. When it is open, give it half an hour for the island's story, from its rocks to the plantation years.
The museum is one floor up, and you see the whole collection at once. It runs broadly in order of time: geology and archaeology first, then Kalinago settlement with a replica hut, a miniature raft and stone tools.
Then come the plantation years, in colonial furniture, farm tools and portraits of past rulers, with cases of the island's birds and fish at the end. Lennox Honychurch, the island's historian, helped set the museum up and wrote much of what is on the walls, so the labels are better than the plain cabinets suggest.
