Ninety seconds on Brașov County History Museum
This is one building of several under the same museum, and the half about the walls is told in the Weavers' Bastion across the old town. A fortnight pass covers eight of the city's collections and is the obvious move for anyone staying.
The collection inside the Council House on the square, covering the Saxon guilds that paid for the walls and the trade route through the Carpathian passes that paid for the guilds. The building is as much of the point as the display.
The permanent display is named for the city and runs its history in sequence, which makes it a straightforward hour and a quarter with no doubling back. What the building adds is position: the Council House stands in the middle of the square and not along one edge of it, so the museum looks out at the town from inside it on every side. The companion collection, on the fortress and the fortifications of the Barsa country, is not in this building at all but in the Weavers' Bastion on the far side of the old town, and the two were laid out to be read together. Anyone who wants the walls explained needs both tickets.
