The doors open to visitors for two morning tours and not otherwise, because the bears are not to be disturbed for the rest of the day. That one rule says what the place is: a sanctuary that admits visitors, not an attraction that keeps bears.

Sixty nine hectares of oak forest above the town holding more than a hundred and thirty brown bears rescued from cages, illegal farms, substandard zoos and private households, visited on a guided walk along the fence line. Visits are booked and timed.

What you do here

A guide takes each group along a set route through the oak wood and the pace belongs to the guide. What is actually visible depends on where the animals have chosen to be that morning, which is the honest position of any sanctuary that has not arranged its residents for viewing: some enclosures are busy, others are empty. The commentary carries the individual histories, and those are the substance of the hour, since the animals here all came from somewhere and the somewhere is the point. Flash, drones and raised voices are prohibited, and the rule about the fence is enforced and not merely posted. An hour covers the standard tour and it finishes before the middle of the day.

Know before you goTours run at fixed times and are confirmed in advance, and the specialist tours need days of notice. Turning up without a booking is not a way in, as of August 2026.
