Ninety seconds on Flatts Village
Stand on Flatts Bridge at the turn of the tide, when the current slackens and eagle rays and turtles pass between the sound and the sea.
Flatts Bridge carries the main road over a channel narrow enough that you can see the water move. The T Docks and the grassy ground across the road from the aquarium give two more views.
Houses that appear in eighteenth century paintings of the village still stand on both banks, several of them former storehouses. To eat, there is an Italian kitchen, a takeaway counter and a pantry with a vegetarian menu. Shelly Bay and its beach lie east along the north shore.
