Pula Arena

Pula's amphitheatre kept its full outer ring of arches when many Roman arenas lost theirs, four storeys of limestone standing over the harbour and finished under the Flavian emperors. Underground passages that once held animals now display Istrian oil and wine presses. Concerts and a film festival use the floor in summer, so check whether an event closes it before making the trip.
