Archaeological Museum
Go before or after visiting the Salona ruins: the finds and the site explain each other, and the arcaded courtyard of sarcophagi is the highlight.

Buy the combined ticket for cathedral, treasury, crypt and belfry, and climb the tower early before the stairs jam up.

Modest collection, but the rooftop walk over the palace is the reason to buy the ticket.

Worth it as much for the 15th-century palace and courtyard as the displays; easy to fold into a walk through the old town.

Diocletian's Palace
A retirement palace for a Roman emperor became the core of a city, and its walls, cellars and peristyle now hold apartments, bars and a cathedral inside the octagonal mausoleum. Entry to the quarter is free; the cathedral, bell tower and basements are ticketed separately. Mornings before the ferries dock are the quiet window.

Small and quiet, a good 30-minute stop between the cathedral and the Golden Gate.

A solid hour that fills in Croatian art history; the modern top floor is the better half.

The strongest single collection in Split; combine it with the Crikvine-Kastelet chapel a few minutes' walk along the same road on one ticket.

Specialist but genuinely important; 45 minutes is enough unless medieval epigraphy is a real interest.

Marjan
A wooded ridge closes the western end of the peninsula, reached by stairs from Varoš and carrying paths to chapels, a small zoo, viewpoints over the harbour and rocky swimming spots on the south shore. Pine shade makes it walkable in high summer, when the old town bakes. The full ridge to Kašjuni takes about two hours.
