Kamnik Little Castle
On a small rock in the middle of town, the Little Castle keeps a rare two-storey Romanesque chapel. A short climb from Glavni trg reaches the top, with a view over the red roofs to the mountains beyond. The site is open to walk up, and it pairs with a stroll along Šutna, the old main street.

Kamniška Bistrica
At the head of this valley about 12 km north of Kamnik, the Kamniška Bistrica river rises in clear green pools below sheer limestone walls. Short paths lead to the spring and the narrow Predaselj gorge, and longer trails climb from here into the Kamnik-Savinja Alps. The valley road ends at a hut and car park that fill early on summer weekends.

Velika Planina
Shingle-roofed herders' huts dot this high Alpine pasture above Kamnik, reached by cable car and chairlift from the valley station about 12 km north of town. From June to September herders live on the plateau with their cattle, and some huts sell sour milk and cheese. The walk between the settlements takes a few hours, and fog can close in quickly.

Volčji Potok Arboretum
About 5 km south of Kamnik, this landscaped park of lawns, lakes and specimen trees is best known for its spring flower shows. Tulips peak in April, followed by rhododendrons and azaleas in May. Entry is ticketed, and a full circuit of the grounds takes two to three hours.

Zaprice Castle
A small manor on a hill at the edge of the old town, Zaprice houses the Kamnik intermunicipal museum, with rooms on local crafts, furniture and the town's history. The grounds include an open-air collection of stone monuments. The museum takes about an hour, and the park around it is free to walk.
