Things to do

Amezrou
Across the Draa from the town centre, this earth-built ksar holds a former Jewish quarter where silversmiths once worked. Covered passages run between the houses, and a few workshops still turn out jewellery in the old styles. A local guide makes sense of the lanes, which have no signs.
-
Ksar Tissergate
North of town on the Ouarzazate road, a fortified village of earth houses keeps its dark covered lanes and its gate in use. A small museum of Draa valley life fills one restored house, with tools, jewellery and clothing laid out room by room. Entry to the museum is ticketed.
-
Tamegroute
Green glazed pottery is fired in earth kilns in the lanes of this village south of Zagora, where cooperative workshops show the whole process. The zawiya library holds Qurans and manuscripts on gazelle skin, shown by a caretaker in a single room, though the shrine itself is closed to non-Muslims. Covered passages of the old ksar can be walked with a guide.

Tamnougalt
Kasbahs of the old local rulers rise from the ksar of this village on the Draa just south of Agdz, on the road into the valley from Ouarzazate. A local guide leads the way through dark covered lanes and the restored kasbah rooms. The visit fits on the drive south, and the palms along the river below suit a short walk.

Tombouctou 52 Jours Sign
A painted board with a camel and the words Tombouctou 52 jours marks the southern edge of town, recalling the caravan crossing to Timbuktu. It stands beside the road toward M'Hamid and makes a quick stop on the way south. Morning light is softer for photographs. Kids and sellers wait by it for the photo stop.
