Things to do in Geiranger

A village of around 250 residents at the head of the Geirangerfjord, one of the two Norwegian fjords inscribed by UNESCO in 2005. Everything worth seeing lies on the water west of it: the Seven Sisters waterfall, the Suitor facing it, and the abandoned shelf farms clinging to ledges hundreds of metres above the surface. The car ferry to Hellesylt runs the full length of the fjord and doubles as the sightseeing boat.

  1. Geirangerfjord

    Natural Wonder · 2 hr

    It only reads properly from the water or from the Ørnesvingen bend above the village; the Hellesylt crossing takes about an hour and keeps a season, while the road viewpoints stay open longer.

  2. Seven Sisters Waterfall

    Waterfall · 30 min

    Best taken from the deck of the Hellesylt ferry or from the Ørnesvingen viewpoint on the road above; the flow is loud with early summer snowmelt and thins out as the season runs on.

  3. Skageflå

    Historic Farm · 3 hr

    Most walkers take the boat drop and climb straight up, then continue out to Homlong rather than wait for a pickup; the exposed sections are stepped and railed but not for the nervous.
