Petrovac Beach and Promenade
The beach takes only part of a morning, so walk one of the coastal paths from the ends of the promenade. One crosses a rocky spur to Lucice; the other follows the cliffs towards the Rezevici monastery.

Castello Fortress
If you only have time for a coffee in Petrovac, spend it on the upper terrace. The whole beach, the harbour and both islets lie below, with the war memorial above you.

Lučice Beach
Early morning is the only time to find sand to spare here in high season. In a cove this small the free gaps between the rented rows go first, and the parking behind it fills too.

Buljarica Beach
A lit concrete path runs from Lučice through the pines, about a kilometre with one short climb, to the longest beach on this part of the coast. More than two kilometres of sand and small pebble run south-east with a wetland behind them, not a row of hotels. Campsites and a few restaurants sit at the northern end, so walk further along for space.

Gradište Monastery
Three churches stand together in this monastery on the hillside above Buljarica. In the Church of St Nicholas, wall paintings tell the story of St George, and the terraces outside look over the sea and the mountains behind. The climb from the coast road is steep, so start early on a summer day.

Perazića Do
Allow about forty minutes on foot from the western end of Petrovac's promenade to this pebble cove under cliffs and pines. The way is a paved coastal path, walled on the sea side, with lit tunnels along it. Bring a mask: the water here is clear enough to snorkel.

Petrovac Roman Mosaic
Under a glass shelter near the church of St Thomas, a short walk up from the seafront, lies the patterned floor of a 4th-century Roman building. The tiles are well preserved, though the ground around them was never fully excavated. Combine it with a look inside the church on the same short walk.

Reževići Monastery
A paved path from the western end of the promenade runs about three kilometres through pines and along walled cliffs, past the cove at Perazića Do, then climbs to this Orthodox monastery. Two small stone churches with painted interiors stand in a garden above the sea. Carry water for the last uphill stretch, and cover shoulders and knees before going in.

Sveta Neđelja
The nearer of the two rocky islets off Petrovac carries a small stone chapel, built by a sailor in thanks for surviving a shipwreck. It is reached only by sea: boats leave the harbour in summer, or rent a kayak on the beach and paddle out. Choose a calm morning for the crossing, because it is open sea.
