Things to do in Podgorica

The capital, and the arrival point for most flights into the country. Bombing in the Second World War left little of the old city, so what stands is largely postwar and later, with the Millennium Bridge over the Moraca as its landmark and the small Ottoman quarter of Stara Varos as the exception. Most travellers pass straight through toward the coast or the mountains, an hour either way. A night here makes sense mainly for an early flight, or for the Moraca and Cijevna river gorges on the city's edge.

    Archaeological remains of an important Roman settlement dating from the 1st century CE, located about 10 kilometers south of Podgorica. Excavations have uncovered houses, public buildings, and a basilica, providing evidence of urban life in the Roman province of Dalmatia.

    The historic core of Podgorica, featuring narrow Ottoman-era streets, traditional stone houses, and the Clock Tower (Sahat-Kula) rebuilt in the 19th century after World War II destruction. The district preserves the layout and character of the Austro-Hungarian and Ottoman periods.
