Popa Falls
The Okavango drops a few metres over a quartzite ledge just below the bridge, spreading into a run of rapids and channels rather than falling as a single sheet. Walkways cross to islands in the middle of it. Water level decides how much there is to see, and the crocodiles are the reason nobody swims.

Bwabwata National Park
Declared over land where a military base and settled communities already sat, this park is managed with residents living inside it, which is unusual in the region. Two core areas hold the game, and a corridor between Angola and Botswana runs through it. Elephant numbers rise sharply through the dry season.

Mahango Game Reserve
Floodplain, baobabs and woodland along the river downstream carry elephant, sable, roan and red lechwe, and the bird list is among the longest in the country. A loop drive follows the water and a second runs inland. A saloon car manages the outer loop in the dry months.
