Grootberg Lodge
Built on the lip of the plateau above the pass, this lodge is owned outright by the Khoadi Hoas conservancy and staffed from it, which was unusual when it opened. Rooms look straight down the valley. Tracking for elephant and rhino runs from the top and involves a long descent.

Grootberg Pass
The C40 climbs onto a basalt plateau in a series of gravel switchbacks, and the top opens onto the Klip River valley with the escarpment running away on both sides. A pull in at the summit is the standard stop. The surface is loose in places and the drop is unguarded for most of the climb.

Palmwag Lodge
Makalani palms and a spring mark the old concession headquarters, where chalets and a campsite sit beside a waterhole that elephants use through the dry months. Fuel is sold at the gate. Rhino tracking and drives into the concession are booked from here, and the permits are issued at the same desk.
