Things to do
4-
Archbishop's Palace
Seat of the Olomouc archbishops, this baroque palace holds an Assembly Hall with a ceiling fresco of about 400 square metres. Its picture gallery hangs Titian's Flaying of Marsyas among Flemish and Italian works. Interiors are seen on two long guided routes, timed from the ticket office. Spring and autumn openings are weekends only, and in summer it closes on Mondays.

Chateau Garden
Spread over some 64 hectares behind the palace, this landscape park mixes ponds, old trees, a colonnade and small pavilions. Paths are free to walk and open daily from early morning, with shorter hours in winter. The gate from the main square is temporarily closed, so use the other entrances. Restoration work on a historic aviary in the Peacock Court continues through 2026.

Flower Garden
Clipped hedges, geometric parterres and a long arcaded colonnade fill this walled garden at the western edge of the old town. An octagonal rotunda in the centre houses a Foucault pendulum. Stairs lead up to the colonnade roof for a view over the whole layout. Entry is ticketed, and opening hours are shorter between November and March.

Great Square
Arcaded burgher houses line the central square, with a plague column and a fountain in the middle and the palace tower rising behind one corner. Cafés set tables under the arches in summer. Both gardens lie within a ten minute walk, so it works as the start of a day on foot. Seasonal fairs and a Christmas market take over the cobbles in December.
