Things to do

Golden Canal
A Renaissance canal built to feed water to the fishponds winds for many kilometres through meadows and woods around Třeboň. Cycle paths follow long stretches of its banks over almost level ground. A half-day loop from town along the canal and back past the Rožmberk dyke needs no more than a hired bike.
-
Masaryk Square
Arcaded houses with stepped and curving gables line the long main square, which has a stone fountain and a plague column near its centre. A gate tower closes one end, and the château entrance sits just off the other. Festival stages and market stalls take over in summer, while evenings out of season are very quiet.
-
Rožmberk Pond
Spreading over the flat land north of town, this is the largest fishpond in the country, held back by a long dyke planted with old oaks. A path along the dyke looks out over open water and reed beds busy with herons and ducks. Each October the pond is drained and netted over several days, and the harvest draws stalls and crowds of onlookers.

Schwarzenberg Tomb
In a wooded park across the Svět pond from the town, a neo-Gothic chapel stands over the family crypt of the Schwarzenbergs. Guided tours of about thirty-five minutes take in the chapel and the vault below. It opens Tuesday to Sunday from April to October, with only a few fixed tour times a week in winter.
-
Svět Pond
Lying against the southern edge of the old town, this fishpond is ringed by a flat path under oaks and pines that takes about two hours to walk. The route passes the spa buildings and the Schwarzenberg tomb on the far shore. A sandy bathing beach on the town side is busy on hot afternoons.

Třeboň Château
Sgraffito walls frame the courtyards of this large Renaissance château, which fills a whole corner of the walled town. Guided routes cover painted Renaissance interiors, the later Schwarzenberg apartments and, in summer, the stables and casemates. Tours run all year, with fewer departures in winter. A landscaped park behind the château reaches towards the Svět pond.
