Things to do
5-

W Verbier
A hotel at the foot of the Medran lift, which is as close to the ski area as a bed gets here, with a spa and a terrace that runs the length of the front. It brought a different register to a town of family chalets when it opened in 2013.
-
Lac des Vaux
A cirque lake at 2,545 metres between Verbier and the Mont Fort lifts, on the walk from Les Ruinettes over Col des Mines. It is the turning point of the standard high loop and holds the reflection of the Bec des Rosses above it.
-
Mont Fort
The high point of the Four Valleys at 3,330 metres, reached by a jumbo cable car from Col des Gentianes, with a platform that sees Mont Blanc, the Matterhorn and the Grand Combin at once. The glacier below it holds snow into the summer.
-
Pierre Avoi
A rock tooth at 2,473 metres north of the resort with a ladder and chain finish to the summit block, looking down the whole Rhone valley from Martigny to Sion. It is a short scramble rather than a climb and it is exposed at the top.
-
Val de Bagnes
The valley Verbier sits above, protected as a regional nature park and running twenty-five kilometres south to the Grand Combin glaciers. It holds the highest permanently inhabited village in the country and the bisse irrigation channels that make the slopes farmable.
