Assos Acropolis
The acropolis of the city that Aeolian settlers from Lesbos founded around the tenth century BC, carrying a temple of Athena of about 530 BC, the only Doric temple in Asia Minor, on the summit. West of it stand a fourth-century BC wall and gate with towers fourteen metres high. Aristotle ran a school here before leaving to tutor Alexander.

Behramkale
The Ottoman village on the acropolis road, with a mosque converted from a Byzantine church, a fourteenth-century humpback bridge below it and stone houses on the slope. The walk down to the harbour takes about twenty minutes and the walk up is harder.

Lamponeia
An Aeolian hilltop town on a long ridge above the village of Kozlu, inland from Assos, where stretches of a thick sixth-century BC circuit wall of rough boulders stand in the scrub, unexcavated and unsigned. From 565 metres the site looks out over the whole southern coast of the Troad, and the ruins are usually empty.
