Assos Acropolis
The acropolis of the city founded in the seventh century BC, carrying a temple of Athena of about 530 BC on the summit and a Greek city wall that is among the best preserved anywhere. Aristotle ran a school here before leaving to tutor Alexander.

Behramkale
The Ottoman village on the acropolis road, with a mosque converted from a Byzantine church, a fourteenth-century humpback bridge below it and stone houses on the slope. The walk down to the harbour takes about twenty minutes and the walk up is harder.

Lamponeia
A small Aeolian hill settlement inland from Assos with sections of polygonal wall standing in scrub, unexcavated and unsigned. It suits anyone who wants a site to themselves.
