Why you should go

Ninety seconds on Uzungöl

A lake in a steep wooded valley at 1,100 metres south of Trabzon, formed when a landslide dammed the stream. It became the Black Sea's most photographed place and then its most built-up one, so the walking above it is worth more than the shore.

  1. Uzungöl Nature Park

    Uzungöl Nature Park

    Park · 3 hr

The protected forest and pasture around the lake, with marked paths climbing to the plateaus above and away from the hotel strip. The upper meadows are where the valley still looks like itself.

  2. Haldizen Mountains

    Viewpoint · 5 hr

The range above the lake, rising past three thousand metres, with high pastures reached by track from the village and a route through to the Kaçkar. Cloud and rain arrive fast at this altitude.

  3. Uzungöl Dursun Ali İnan Museum

    Museum · 30 min

A private museum in the village holding the tools, textiles and household things of the Çaykara valleys, assembled over decades by one collector. It is small and it is the only cultural stop here.
