Things to do in Höfn

A fishing town of about 1,800 people on a low spit in Hornafjörður, roughly 455 kilometres from Reykjavík on the Ring Road and surrounded by sea on three sides. Langoustine landed here gives the town its kitchen reputation, and the Skinney-Þinganes plant is among the largest fish processors in east Iceland. Vatnajökull fills the inland horizon, which makes Höfn the eastern base for the glacier lagoons, Skaftafell and the winter ice caves. The Almannaskarð tunnel, opened in 2005, carries Route 1 east out of town and cut the old winter closures.
