Things to do in Bassano del Grappa

Why you should go

Ninety seconds on Bassano del Grappa

A walled town on the Brenta where it leaves the mountains, under the massif that gave the First World War its Italian front. The ridge above it is one of the busiest paragliding sites in Europe.

  1. Monte Grappa

    Monte Grappa

    Viewpoint · 4 hr

A 1,775-metre massif with a launch at Panettone that works most days and holds several distance records, which is why the paragliding world championships have been staged here. The summit also carries an ossuary holding the dead of both armies.

  2. Canale del Brenta

    Canyon · 3 hr

The gorge upstream of the town, used for rafting and kayaking on releases and lined with abandoned terraces of tobacco. The via ferrata routes on its walls are among the oldest in Italy.

  3. Ponte degli Alpini

    Bridge · 30 min

A covered wooden bridge over the Brenta designed by Palladio in 1569, rebuilt each time war or flood has taken it, most recently in 1948. Its design lets it flex rather than resist the river.
