Things to do in Ortisei

Why you should go

Ninety seconds on Ortisei

The main town of Val Gardena, a woodcarving centre for four centuries and still Ladin-speaking. Two cable cars lift straight from the town to Seceda and the Alpe di Siusi.

  1. Seceda

    Seceda

    Viewpoint · 3 hr

A grass ridge that breaks off into a row of tilted rock blades, reached by cable car and funicular from Ortisei. The view from the top is the one that put the Dolomites on every screen.

  2. Alpe di Siusi

    Park · 5 hr

The largest high alpine meadow in Europe, about fifty square kilometres of pasture at around 1,800 metres with the Sciliar rising at its edge. Private cars are barred through the day, so it is reached by cable car from Ortisei or Siusi.

  3. Museum Gherdëina

    Museum · 1 hr

The valley museum of Val Gardena, holding Ladin woodcarving, local archaeology and a room on the language itself. Carving has been the trade here since the seventeenth century.

  4. Vallunga

    Viewpoint · 2.5 hr

A flat-floored glacial valley behind Selva, closed to traffic and walkable on an easy track between vertical walls. It stays quiet when the lifts are busy and works in almost any weather.
