Alpe di Siusi
The largest high alpine meadow in Europe, about fifty square kilometres of pasture at around 1,800 metres with the Sciliar rising at its edge. Private cars are barred through the day, so it is reached by cable car from Ortisei or Siusi.

Seceda
A grass ridge that breaks off into a row of tilted rock blades, reached by cable car and funicular from Ortisei. The view from the top is the one that put the Dolomites on every screen. Cloud closes the ridge often, so the forecast decides the day.

Museum Gherdëina
The valley museum of Val Gardena, holding Ladin woodcarving, local archaeology and a room on the language itself. Carving has been the trade here since the seventeenth century. It stands on the main street, takes under an hour, and opens on an afternoon schedule out of season.

Vallunga
A flat-floored glacial valley behind Selva, closed to traffic and walkable on an easy track between vertical walls. It stays quiet when the lifts are busy and works in almost any weather. The car park at the Selva end fills early on summer weekends and at snowshoe season.
