Matterhorn
The four-sided pyramid on the Swiss border, 4,478 metres, seen from Cervinia as a broader and less perfect shape than the Zermatt profile on the chocolate box. The Italian ridge was the line of the disputed first ascent in 1865.

Lago Blu
A small lake below the resort that holds the Matterhorn's reflection when the surface is still, which is usually early. It is a ten-minute walk off the road up.

Plateau Rosa
A glacier saddle at 3,480 metres reached by cable car, where the summer ski area sits and the national teams train. It is also the crossing point on skis to Zermatt.
