Things to do in San Martino Val Masino

Why you should go

Ninety seconds on San Martino Val Masino

A village at the mouth of Val Masino in the Lombard Alps, under granite walls that made this the closest thing Italy has to Yosemite. Climbers and boulderers are most of who comes, and the valley above it is closed to cars in summer.

  1. Val di Mello

    Viewpoint · 5 hr

A flat-floored granite valley of meadows, waterfalls and scattered boulders, and the best bouldering ground in Italy. The Melloblocco festival each spring is the largest bouldering meet in Europe, and problems run at every grade.

  2. Val Masino

    Viewpoint · 6 hr

The wider valley system holding the Sasso Remenno, one of the largest free-standing boulders in Europe, and multi-pitch granite up to several hundred metres. Trad and slab climbing here is closer to alpine rock than to a sport crag.
