Things to do

Gole del Raganello
A gorge cut thirteen kilometres through the eastern side of the massif, done as a canyoning descent with a guide. Flash flooding has killed here, so it is run only with an operator watching the forecast.

Lao
The best known white-water river in southern Italy, running through deep limestone gorges inside the Pollino park with almost nothing built along it. Descents are run at several grades and the same operators add canyoning and caving in the side valleys.

Parco nazionale del Pollino
The largest national park in Italy, straddling Basilicata and Calabria, and the only place the Bosnian pine grows on Italian soil. Its high ground is genuinely remote and the walking on it is long rather than technical.
