Things to do in Monterosso al Mare

Why you should go

Ninety seconds on Monterosso al Mare

The largest of the five and the only one with a real sand beach, split into an old village and a newer resort half by a headland. It is where a Cinque Terre trip with any beach time is based.

  1. Spiaggia di Fegina

    Beach · 3 hr

The longest sand beach in the Cinque Terre, in the newer half of Monterosso west of the headland, mostly laid out with hired loungers and umbrellas. It is the only one of the five villages where a beach day genuinely works.

  2. Statua del Gigante

    Monument

A fourteen-metre Neptune in reinforced concrete, built into the rock at the end of Fegina beach in 1910 to hold up the terrace of a villa. Wartime damage and storms took his arms and trident.

  3. Torre Aurora

    Tower · 30 min

A sixteenth-century defensive tower on the headland between the two halves of Monterosso, one of thirteen built along this coast against Saracen raids. It now houses a bar and the view is the reason to go up.
