Things to do
5-

Schoellenen Gorge
The gorge below the village where the Reuss cuts through granite, impassable until a bridge was hung there in the thirteenth century and the route to the Gotthard opened. The Devil's Bridge and the Russian memorial carved into the cliff are both here.
-
Furka Pass
A road pass at 2,429 metres west of the village, open from about June to October, running past the Rhone glacier and its ice grotto. The chase scene in Goldfinger was filmed on it and the road has not changed much since.
-
Gotthard Pass
The pass that made the country, at 2,106 metres, carrying the road from German-speaking Uri into Italian-speaking Ticino. The old cobbled Tremola road switchbacks below the modern one and is still driveable.
-
Oberalp Pass
The pass east at 2,044 metres, carrying the Matterhorn Gotthard railway and the road to Graubunden, with the source of the Rhine a walk of about ninety minutes above it at Lai da Tuma.
-
The Chedi
A hotel of 2013 that started the rebuilding of the village, in dark timber and stone with fireplaces through the public rooms and a pool under a glass roof. It brought a standard to the Urner Alps that had not been there before.
