Ninety seconds on Weggis

A village on the north shore of Lake Lucerne under the Rigi, with a climate mild enough for figs and palms and no through road until 1860, when the only way in was by boat. The steamers still call and it is the pleasant way to arrive. It is the foot of the Rigi's cable car and a quieter base than Lucerne, twenty minutes away by boat across the water.

    Rigi Kaltbad

    Viewpoint · 2.5 hr

    A terrace at 1,433 metres on the Rigi's west flank, reached by cable car from the village, with a Mario Botta bath house of 2012 built into the slope and the rack railway to the summit going on from here.

  2. Chaenzeli

    Viewpoint · 1.5 hr

    A viewpoint above Weggis reached on foot or from Rigi Kaltbad, looking straight down onto the bay and across to Pilatus. It is the classic postcard of this arm of the lake and about forty minutes of walking from the cable car.
