Bâlea Lake
On a summer weekend the road up is busy and the parking by the lake fills quickly. Start early, and come on a weekday if you can.

Transfăgărășan
Only one section closes in winter, between the waterfall and Piscu Negru. Outside the summer window you can still drive the road, just a shorter stretch of it below the snow line.

Bâlea Waterfall
The largest waterfall in the Făgăraș, dropping about 60 metres below the cable car station, with a marked path to its foot from the lower road. It is at its heaviest in June when the snow above is going, and the path takes twenty minutes and is slippery under the spray.

Cârța Monastery
The ruins of a Cistercian abbey founded about 1202, dissolved in 1474, with the choir still roofed and in use as the village Lutheran church and the nave standing open to the sky. It is the furthest east the order built, and the key is held at the parish house next door.

Moldoveanu Peak
The highest mountain in the country at 2,544 metres, on the Făgăraș ridge, reached on a long approach from the north or as part of the multi day ridge traverse. There is no lift and no shortcut. Most parties start at Sâmbăta or Victoria and take two days over it.
