Callatis Archaeological Site
The remains of the Dorian colony founded in the sixth century before the common era, including a stretch of the Roman and Byzantine wall and a tomb with a papyrus, scattered through the modern town rather than fenced in one place.

Esmahan Sultan Mosque
The oldest mosque in the country, built in 1590 for a daughter of Selim II from stone taken out of the Greek and Roman town, with a cemetery and a fountain in its walled garden. It is still in use, stands a short walk from the station, and shoes are left at the door.

Limanu Cave
A labyrinth of about four kilometres of passage seven kilometres inland, partly cut by hand, with Getic and later material found inside. It is gated and entered only with a guide. Visits are arranged in the village, and the passages are low enough to need a helmet and a lamp.

Plaja 2 Mai
The beach at the fishing village two kilometres north, wider and quieter than its neighbour, with fishing boats pulled up at the southern end. It is walked along the shore from Vama Veche in half an hour, and the water shelves gently, which suits anyone who wants the coast without the music.

Plaja Mangalia
A wide sand beach at the southern end of the coastal strip, backed by park and quiet buildings, and much the calmest of the developed beaches. It shelves gently, the water stays shallow a long way out, and the promenade behind it runs north towards Saturn.
