How many days do you need in Sinaia?

Two nights. One day covers Peleș, Pelișor, the monastery and the casino, which each run their own timed visits. The second is for the gondola to Cota 2000 and a walk on the Bucegi plateau, which needs a clear morning and an early start.

Do you need a car in Sinaia?

No. The station, Dimitrie Ghica Park, the casino and the monastery are all a few minutes apart on foot. Peleș is about thirty minutes uphill from the station, and local buses climb to the castles and to the gondola base in the Furnica district.

When is the best time to visit Sinaia?

Sinaia Casino

Take the full tour rather than the royal gallery alone, because the theatre and the old gaming rooms are the reason to go in. Tours start at a quarter past the hour, and tickets go on sale fifteen minutes before.

Sinaia Gondola

Be at the bottom station when it opens, because summer queues can reach an hour by late morning. On maintenance days the older cable car from the town centre runs to Cota 1400 instead, and high wind stops the top section without warning.

Bucegi Natural Park

Ride the gondola up rather than climbing from town, and start early. Cloud often builds over the plateau by early afternoon, and in fog the paths are easy to lose, so turn back if it closes in.

Dimitrie Ghica Park

Cut through the park between the station and the monastery. It is the gentlest way up towards the castles.

Come for an hour away from the castle crowds. It is closed on Monday and Tuesday, like Peleș, so plan it for the same day.

Stop on the way up to Peleș rather than after it. The grounds open every day, but Sunday services limit access to the churches, so come on another morning to see inside.

Walk up here from the top of the gondola if you have only an hour on the plateau. It is the shortest climb to a real summit from Sinaia.
